AS 7507 Rolling Stock Outlines – Review
The closing date for nominations – Tuesday 4 March 2025
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7507 Rolling Stock Outlines.
How will this help the rail industry?
This standard helps lower operational costs and extends the lifespan of rolling stock by preventing infrastructure damage and minimising maintenance expenses.
Improved interoperability enhances scheduling efficiency, reducing downtime and increasing revenue opportunities. Additionally, AS 7507 mitigates risks associated with derailments and non-compliance. Ultimately, the standard fosters investment, competitiveness, and cost predictability, making rail operations more financially sustainable.
About
This Standard outlines requirements to ensure rolling stock conforms to reference outlines, maintaining safe clearance between rolling stock, fixed structures, and passing trains.
The Development Group will complete a review to confirm the standard continues to support the safe operation of rolling stock on the network. As part of this review the development group will consider change requests, new technology, incident reports and investigation recommendation to identify relevant amendments and updates.
This review of AS 7507 will confirm the continued safety, operational, financial and interoperability of rolling stock operating on the network by:
- ensuring safe clearances
- reducing risks from track irregularities
- preventing out-of-gauge situations
- providing consistency across networks
- guidance on maintenance
- consideration of various vehicle movements
- application to various rolling stock types.

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be a minimum of four meetings held between March and May 2025.
