AS 7711 Signaling Principles
The closing date for nominations – Tuesday 6 May 2025
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations to join a Development Group to review AS 7711 Signaling Principles.
How will this help the rail industry?
Signalling systems form the backbone of the safety operation of the railway. For example, principles regarding the safe separation of rail traffic reduce the risk of train to train collision.
AS 7711 contains the critical signalling principles that drive the safe operation of rail vehicles and the maintenance activities on the railway. All railways should adhere to these principles when designing, constructing, and commissioning these vital assets.
This review will consider recommended changes to the principles received by RISSB. The introduction of new digital train control systems such as ETCS and CBTC, and findings from several incident investigations will also be considered for inclusion where appropriate.
About
The objective of this Standard is to provide the rail industry with a set of signalling principles that will ensure the safe and efficient operation of a railway.
This Standard is applicable to signalling systems and their interfaces with people and procedures. The signalling system could include components that are infrastructure-based and components that are train-borne.
Time commitment
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be 5 meetings held between May and November 2025. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.
