AS 7721 Lineside Signals, Indicators and Signal Signage

The closing date for comments – Thursday 26 June 2025

The AS 7721 Lineside Signals, Indicators and Signal Signage is now open for Public Consultation.

How this product helps the rail industry

Greater commonality of signalling equipment aligns with the national rail reform program which aims to create technical and operational interoperability to enable freight and passenger rail to move more easily between major cities and regions.

By encouraging a reduction in the differences between the signalling equipment and materials used in the various rail networks in Australia, AS 7721 aims to achieve a consistent level of safety and performance across all operators. It will also foster good practice in human factors issues and achieve economies of scale.

About

This product underwent a targeted, aged review which focussed on ensuring alignment to recently reviewed RISSB products AS 7632 Signage and AS 7631 Sighting. Such alignment drives harmonisation of the requirements in RISSB products and seeks to ensure information is not duplicated and has a single source of truth.
