Call for Development Group members – Review – AS 7721 Lineside signals, indicators and signal signage

The closing date for nominations – Wednesday, 18 December 2024

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations from industry representatives and subject matter experts to review standard AS 7721 Lineside signals, indicators and signal signage.

How will this help the rail industry?

This standard seeks to achieve a common level of safety and performance across all operators, encourage good practice in human factors issues and achieve economies of scale by encouraging a reduction in the differences between the signalling equipment and materials used in the various rail networks in Australia.

About

This product within the RISSB’s catalogue will provide users of Australian rail networks with the requirements for new and modified lineside signals, indicators and signal signage for existing and future proposed signalling systems. These requirements will consider materials, design, construction, testing, commissioning and maintenance which will contribute to the harmonization and interoperability of rail networks across Australia. As this is a targeted review, we will be focussed on:

  • Alignment with the revised AS 7631 and AS 7632
  • Review of change requests associated with AS 7721
  • Review of referenced Standards for relevance.

Time commitment

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be a minimum of six meetings held between January 2025 and February 2026.

Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.

How to contribute

Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for subject matter experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.

All nominations and enquiries are to be submitted via email to Jodie Matheson, Standards Development Manager at jmatheson@rissb.com.au.

As part of your nomination, please provide a brief including your contact details, interest in this development (materially affected party, subject matter expert, etc.), and any other information supporting your participation. This information will assist us in ensuring balanced representation from all major interest categories in developing this document.

The closing date for nominations is Wednesday, 18 December 2024.

As the rail industry’s accredited standards development organisation, RISSB continues to collaborate with government, rail operators and industry leaders to improve the efficiency and harmonisation of Australia and New Zealand’s rail network, ensuring national interoperability into the future.
