How will this help the rail industry?Fire safety is a key issue in every aspect of railway operations and it is essential that all rail vehicles are designed and constructed to comply with fire safety Standards. The introduction of new zero emission technologies such as hydrogen and battery power will result in a range of new hazards that need to be captured, appropriately managed and mitigated. It is therefore important that this Standard is updated accordingly. AboutThe main purpose of the Standard is to provide fire safety for locomotive rolling stock operating in Australia. The document covers the design, construction and maintenance of locomotives. This document applies to both the design and construction of new locomotives and the maintenance, modification and refurbishment of existing locomotives. The requirements of this standard are aimed at minimising the fire risk to life of passengers and train crew, as well as the risks that a fire on such rolling stock may pose to the life safety of other users of the infrastructure.
