Call for Development Group Members – Review of AS 1085 Railway Track Material – Parts 2,3 and 10

The closing date for nominations – Friday, 13 September 2024

The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations from industry representatives and subject matter experts to review AS 1085 Railway Track Material:

  • Part 2 – Fishplates
  • Part 3 – Sleeper Plates
  • Part 10 – Rail Anchors

How will this help the rail industry?

Track material plays a critical role in maintaining a safe railway. This targeted review seeks to update three parts of this series to ensure the technical detail remains relevant and up to date with current design and manufacturing practices.

About

These are a suite of standards that RISSB has assumed accountability for, having been previously developed by Standards Australia between 2002 -2004.

There is now an opportunity to update these to align with current practices in design and manufacturing.

The following scopes apply:

  • AS 1085.2 – Review Table 11-1 Tolerances and Appendix B Fishplate profiles, add content applicable to machined fishplates

  • AS 1085.3 – Update drawings to reflect current designs, remove redundant designs

  • AS 1085.10 – Amend Section 4 Bearing area to reflect current design.

Time commitment

Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be a minimum of two meetings held between September and November 2024.

Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.
