Call for Public Consultation – New Product – AS 7470 Human Factors Integration in Rail Engineering Projects
The closing date for comments – Monday, November 11, 2024
A new Standard AS 7470 Human Factors Integration in Rail Engineering Projects is now open for Public Consultation.
How will this help the rail industry?
This Standard aims to help the Australian rail industry by ensuring that Human Factors Integration (HFI) is embedded throughout the system lifecycle. By systematically incorporating human capabilities and limitations into the design, development, and operation of rail systems, the Standard enhances safety, performance, and user acceptance. Additionally, this Standard aligns with regulatory requirements, supports risk management, and improves the effectiveness, comfort, and error minimization of rail systems. Adopting this Standard will assist in delivering safer and more efficient rail operations, better meeting the needs of end users and reducing operational risks.
About
RISSB is committed to delivering safety improvements to the Australian rail industry and recognises the importance of Human Factors integration in rail engineering system lifecycles.
A Development Group, comprised of Human Factor specialist, has completed a review of AS 7470 to confirm it continues to provide guidance for Australian rail industry to ensure human factors are considered during the design, development, operation, and maintenance of rail engineering projects. The Standard outlines the necessary steps for incorporating HFI into engineering design processes to optimize system performance, safety, and user acceptance.
The Development Group recognised the importance of ensuring early consideration of HFI, from feasibility to full design, is crucial for minimising risks and enhancing the safety, effectiveness, and maintainability of rail systems.
How to contribute
