Call for Public Consultation – Review – AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles

The closing date for comments – Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

A new Standard AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles is now open for a 60-day Public Consultation.

How will this help the rail industry? 

This review and update to AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles will provide the latest requirements and best practice in the design, manufacture and maintenance of road rail vehicles used by railways and contractors primarily for infrastructure maintenance and construction.

About

The objective of AS 7502 is to set the core requirements for the safe design, construction, testing, maintenance, decommissioning and modifications of road rail vehicles and to ensure compatibility with rail networks.

A knowledgeable and diverse Development Group has worked with RISSB to develop this Standard including rail operators, road rail vehicle suppliers, rail infrastructure managers and railway construction/maintenance organisations.

AS 7502 applies to all Road Rail Vehicles however the following items are not covered in the Standard:

  • Network registration of RRVs by RIMs
  • Operation of RRVs with respect to network safe working rules and route standards
  • RRVs on cane railways
  • Remotely controlled RRVs.

How to contribute

AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles will be available for public consultation for 60 days. All interested parties are encouraged to provide comments during this time.
