eLearning to deliver better medical assessments outcomes for industry
The National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers 2024 (the Standard) came into effect on Monday, 11 November 2024. All health assessments for rail safety workers must now comply with this new edition.
Only health professionals accredited with the new Authorised Health Professionals (AHP) Program are permitted to perform these assessments.
Together with this, an eLearning program is being designed by RISSB and the Chief Medical Officers Council (CMOC), a RISSB Network of Chief Medical Officers (CMO) will provide a consistent training approach.
It will benefit industry by encouraging more AHPs who can provide the medical assessments across Australia who are well trained to deliver the requirements in the Standard.
Trained and registered AHP’s will be able to manage their own data in the system, as well as online training.
Rail industry workers and rail transport operators will be able to easily search for trained and registered AHP’s to perform rail health medicals.
The new portal will enable trained and registered AHP’s to:
- Locate Chief Medical Officer face-to-face training dates (6 months of dates are displayed in advance) and details.
- Complete online training once they have completed the face-to-face training with a Chief Medical Officer.
- Manage their own data in the system.
- Access AHP only resources.
- Pay their annual membership fee.
- Notifications of subscription and training expiry.
- Escalation of disputes.
An exemplary case of industry collaboration, RISSB led the project working together with our partners Metro Trains Australia (MTA) for the AHP Program system, NTC as owners of the Standard and the RISSB Network of Subject Matter Experts, Chief Medical Officers Council to deliver a best for industry program which will deliver improved safety outcomes. RISSB thanks all the project team members for this collaboration.
