Four Board approved products to help build harmonisation momentum

Four products were approved by the RISSB Board this month, including a Standard, a Code of Practice and two Guidelines.

Collectively, the updates to these products help drive harmonisation, interoperability and safety for the rail industry.

  • AS 7632 Signage – this Standard will provide the railway industry stronger requirements and recommendations for the whole-of-life management of railway operational signage, driving greater harmonisation of colours, shapes, and sizes.
  • Code of Practice – Vigilance Systems and Timing Cycles – the CoP advances rail safety, operational efficiency, and worker health through learnings from incidents while preparing the industry for evolving challenges. Design priorities include addressing human factors, integrating advanced technologies and mitigating risks from timing cycles and penalty brake applications.
  • Guideline – Rail Traffic PAE Risk Management – the updated Guideline provides information for RTOs to benchmark themselves against good practice in the management and prevention of SPAD risk and includes updates to reflect industry-accepted terminology such as “proceed authority exceedance”.
  • Guideline – Derailment Investigation Analysis – this greatly enhanced Guideline provides the rail industry with updated approaches to derailment investigations and describes aspects of train operations, rolling stock, infrastructure, and human factors to assist in developing derailment prevention measures.

RISSB would like to thank industry experts, Development Group members and those that provided comments during public consultation for their contributions to these four products.

The products will soon be available for download from our website.
