Call for Development Group Members – Review – Guideline – Operating Road Rail Vehicles
The closing date for nominations – Friday, 6 December 2024
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) is seeking nominations from industry representatives and subject matter experts to review the existing Guideline – Operating Road Rail Vehicles.
How will this help the rail industry?
This review of the Guideline – Operating Road Rail Vehicles is in response to the rapid growth in use and variety of road rail vehicles in the Australian rail industry and the recent review of the AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles which has revealed a number of aspects not previously addressed.
About
Road rail vehicles are essentially a ‘hybrid’ machine which by their very nature are a compromise to enable operations on and off rail. This enables great flexibility of operation in rail infrastructure construction and maintenance. However, their operation without a complete understanding of the limitations of such compromise has resulted in incidents.
The review of this product will bring up to date the framework and guidance for all end users of road rail vehicles to assist with the development and implementation of the systems and procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operations of these valuable and flexible assets.
Time commitment
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. There will be a minimum of six meetings held between December 2024 and May 2025. Further information on the responsibilities of a Development Group member can be obtained from the RISSB Website.
How to contribute
Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to submit nominations for subject matter experts to join this Development Group to contribute to the overall depth and quality of the product.
All nominations and enquiries are to be submitted via email to our Standards Development Manager David Sutherland at dsutherland@rissb.com.au.
As part of your nomination, please provide a brief including your contact details, interest in this development (materially affected party, subject matter expert, etc.), and any other information supporting your participation. This information will assist us in ensuring balanced representation from all major interest categories in developing this document.
The closing date for nominations is Friday, 6 December 2024.
As the rail industry’s accredited standards development organisation, RISSB continues to collaborate with government, rail operators and industry leaders to improve the efficiency and harmonisation of Australia and New Zealand’s rail network, ensuring national interoperability into the future.
