Call for Public Consultation – AS 7655 Wayside Electrical Charging Interface for Low Emissions Rolling Stock
The closing date for comments – Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
A new Standard AS 7655 Wayside Electrical Charging Interface for Low Emissions Rolling Stock is now open for Public Consultation.
How will this help the rail industry?
AS 7655 Wayside Electrical Charging Interface for Low Emissions Rolling Stock provides a consistent set of requirements for the electrical charging interfaces between rolling stock and infrastructure equipment as part of industry wide decarbonisation initiatives. The aim of this Standard is to promote seamless integration and interoperability across different ANZ rail networks to reduce cost and complexity.
About
RISSB is enthusiastic to issue this new Standard for public consultation. Working in conjunction with our RISSB members, it has been highlighted that there is not a standardized approach to electrical charging of these new technologies. Rail operators are currently developing, designing, acquiring, testing and integrating battery electric rail vehicles into their fleets but lack a standard set of requirements for the charging infrastructure.
AS 7655 outlines a consistent approach to the electrical charging interfaces between wayside infrastructure and rolling stock to provide alignment between standards for traction power equipment, charging infrastructure design, solutions for different charging strategies and rolling stock with onboard traction energy storage systems for the purposes of charging onboard energy storage systems.
A knowledgeable and diverse Development Group has worked with RISSB and an external author to develop this Standard. The DG members include rail operators, rail infrastructure managers, rolling stock suppliers and other industry experts.
How to contribute
AS 7655 Wayside Electrical Charging Interface for Low Emissions Rolling Stock will be available for public consultation for 60 days. All interested parties are encouraged to provide comments during this time.
