RISSB 2025 lookahead
2025 is shaping up to be an exciting and busy year at RISSB.
We have a new Chair, Dr Gillian Miles who was appointed at the November 2024 AGM and two Government-Appointed Directors joining the RISSB Board.
The team is back refreshed and ready to work with and deliver for our members, governments and the industry.
Snapshot of what’s on in 2025
Work Plan and Development Groups
We have started developing the RISSB 2025-2026 Work Plan even as we continue to deliver the 30 products from the 2024-2025 Work Plan that reflects industry’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. Prioritisation of our Work Plans are now undertaken in a far more targeted way using a more diverse range of inputs.
Keep an eye out for our calls to participate in Development Groups for these projects. It is important that industry participates in the development of our products. The RISSB model provides industry a unique opportunity to directly influence the way it works.
In the next few months, look out for the publication of new and reviewed Standards, Codes of Practice, Guidelines and more such as the AS 7655 Wayside Electrical Charging Interface for Low Emissions Rolling Stock, the Rail Safety Investigations Code of Practice and the SPAD/PAE Risk Management Guidelines.
Horizons Program
The expanded Horizons Program recognises the significant rail sector in WA and we have added a west coast format to the successful east coast format. Look out for the combined forum in Sydney where the highly contested project pitch to a panel of CEOs happens. It will be epic! This program is now open for registration.
Signature events
The RISSB Rail Safety Conference and RISSB Rail Safety Awards are back in May in Sydney with a fantastic line-up of Speakers, panels and activities. The well-received rail safety incident ‘mock trial’ will be back!
Recognise your teams for their achievements and submit your awards nomination now!
Industry collaboration
The RISSB Network is already pumping along with the PAE (SPAD) Working Group, the Human Factors Management Group and the Chief Medical Officers Council (CMOC) scheduled meetings to share and learn from industry’s subject matter experts and how best to tackle industry’s safety priorities.
The addition of a Horizons Alumni to the RISSB Network recognises the continued support needed to keep our industry’s future strong and to tap into the future rail leaders in the technical, safety and operational fields.
Industry learning and development programs
Check out our Learning & Development/Training calendar for derailment and investigating safety incidents courses and ALCAM courses.
Learn from those in the forefront of their areas of expertise and future of rail technology. Our exciting Webinar MasterClass series in 2025 kicks off in February. These are just some of the great line-up of our program in 2025.
RISSB co-chairs the NTC Standards Working Sub-Group (SWSG) of the Interoperability Advisory Group focusing on driving greater interoperability, harmonisation and the importance of local content.
In the coming year, it is more critical for us to continue our collaboration with key stakeholders like NTC, ONRSR, governments, investigation agencies and rail international bodies just to name a few, and contribute to the national rail reform program as an organisation rich in expertise and passion for the industry. Equally important, we will be ensuring our members participate at the highest level in defining this reformed landscape to achieve a world class rail network.
