Some fantastic work has gone into this by the author, Klaus Clemens, with deep engagement with industry participants. This work provides RISSB with a direct line-of-sight for what’s required next to start that streamlining process. Our work on this Paper perfectly complements the work being led by the National Transport Commission (NTC). So take the opportunity to read the White Paper – at least part of its purpose is to stimulate industry debate to further inform solutions. Your feedback on this piece of work is valuable and will be much appreciated. Please email info@rissb.com.au with any comments or ideas. Damien White PRODUCTSWhite Paper: Streamlining the Rolling Stock Approval ProcessesThe multiplicity of approval processes to operate rolling stock across Australia has been identified by the rail freight industry as a major deterrent to investment and innovation. To address this industry wide issue, RISSB has commissioned a White Paper: Streamlining the Rolling Stock Approval Processes. The rail freight industry is seeking to streamline vehicle approval processes to reduce the administrative burden with transparent timeframes that enhances rolling stock utilisation. Registering a railway vehicle to operate across the Australian rail networks involves multiple networks, which are managed by different rail infrastructure managers and the rolling stock operators. The substantial issue raised by the industry within the broader vehicle approval processes is largely related to the certification of rail vehicles rather than the registration processes. The approach of this White Paper is for industry to work collaboratively to address the concerns raised with rolling stock approval processes. The Paper supports the further development and expansion of the national rolling stock register (NRSR) system and procedures, which will improve standardisation and enhance interoperability across multiple interstate and intrastate networks. It puts forward a set of discussion points and recommendations for further consideration. You can find out more and read the paper on the RISSB website. Call for Development Group Members – Review of AS 7632 Railway Infrastructure - SignageWe are currently seeking nominations from industry representatives and subject matter experts to review AS 7632 Railway Infrastructure - Signage. This targeted review seeks to support harmonisation of railway signage across the Australian railway industry. Your contribution will help drive greater safety outcomes for operators of rail vehicles and track workers. This Standard was last reviewed in 2015, and there is now an opportunity to assess whether it still represents best practice, and meets the current requirements of the railway industry. For more information and how to nominate yourself, click here. The closing date for nominations is Monday, 19 August 2024. TRAINING AND EVENTSRISSB's Derailment Investigation and Analysis training in PerthEarlier this month, RISSB held Derailment Investigation and Analysis training at Arc Infrastructure in Perth. Together with delegates from Rio Tinto, PTA and Arc Infrastructure, we gained so much insight into investigation techniques, best-practice evidence collection processes and reporting. What was made clear is how important it is for all team members to be across the Derailment Investigation process, so evidence can be preserved and learnings can be captured. Many thanks to our hosts for providing access to their impressive facilities, we all got so much out of this experience! Do you have 10+ people that could benefit from this training? Contact training@rissb.com.au for a quote customised to your team’s needs. With our Sydney training now sold out, we have just two public Derailment training courses that remain open for 2024. If you would like to attend in Adelaide (3-5 September) or Brisbane (24-26 September) register your interest by clicking here l before the last few spots sell out! GENERAL NEWSOTSI stakeholder survey 2024The Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) is conducting a stakeholder survey that closes on 26 July 2024. The survey will gather feedback on OTSI’s products and services, and how it engages with stakeholders. OTSI’s role is to investigate bus, ferry and rail incidents and share safety lessons with the industry to improve network safety. It will use the survey to identify opportunities to maximise the value it offers the transport sector to make safety improvements based on insights from OTSI investigations, data analysis and research. How to participate Lonergan Research, an independent agency, has designed a brief online survey, which takes just 5-10 minutes. All responses are anonymous and remain strictly confidential. They would appreciate open and honest feedback. Take the survey by clicking the button below. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT ON
