Sudha Niles GENERAL NEWSFinalists announced for the 2024 ARI Safety Excellence AwardThe Australasian Railway Association (ARA) have announced the finalists for the 2024 Australasian Rail Industry (ARI) Awards. RISSB has again this year supported The Safety Excellence Award, an award that acknowledges the overall achievements of a safety professional in improving the health, safety and wellbeing outcomes within a team or organisation. This years finalists are:

This years conference hosted by Informa Connect, will showcase the latest innovations and business opportunities, connecting technology, knowledge and people all under the one roof for an interactive exchange of ideas and solutions. This year, Connect Rail will be focusing on three specific streams; decarbonisation, rail operations and infrastructure. RISSB's Board Director Dr Tim Kuypers, and CEO Damien White, will be speaking at this years conference. Tim will be moderating a panel addressing the safety standards for new energy technology, and Damien will be providing an update on RISSB’s priority issues and industry leadership. Connect Rail brings together key industry and government stakeholders, customers, researchers, suppliers and young rail professionals to showcase the exciting developments that are driving new possibilities, opportunities and benefits. It connects technology, knowledge and people all in one meeting place to exchange of ideas and solutions. TRAINING AND EVENTSNew AHP Program supporting the implementation of rail safety worker health assessmentsJoin us for another MasterClass Webinar, where we will hear about the new Authorised Health Professional (AHP) Program that has been developed to manage and provide support for AHPs, and ensure easy access to AHPs for Rail Transport Operators and rail safety workers. RISSB and Metro Trains Australia (MTA) have worked together to develop the Program in consultation with the National Transport Commission, to address issues raised in the recent review of the National Standard for the Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers. During the webinar, we will hear about the proposed new standard that is due to be released this year. We will be joined by Josie Thomas, Principal Policy Advisor at the National Transport Commission (NTC), who is leading the review of the rail standard, and Griffin Smith, Key Account Manager at MTA, who is leading the development and implementation of the AHP Program. Last week's RISSB Horizons Forum in BrisbaneLast week, we held our second Horizons Forum for 2024 in Brisbane. Participants were lucky enough to listen to some exciting presentations from a range of industry and subject matter experts. The day started with Sally Stannard (DG Transport & Main Roads) who provided exciting insights about the planned rail infrastructure projects that will transform South East QLD over the next eight years leading up to the Olympics. The forum also covered sustainability in rail by a panel of industry leaders consisting of Emily Low (Mott McDonald), Catherine Pepper (Aurizon) and Caroline Moss (QR) who shared the priorities and challenges involved with championing and achieving sustainability outcomes in their respective organisations. Dr Gemmar Reid provided insights into Human Factors and implications for Safety Leadership, Associate Professor Michael Cholette (QUT) walked us through fascinating research on condition-based asset management and Jordan Haines (Cross River Rail) showed us how digital models are informing the Cross River Rail project. RISSB wishes to thank all of those who participated, as well as all our presenters. Call for Development Group Members – New Product – Australian Standard 25kV AC Rail Traction Electrification Systems We are currently is seeking nominations from industry representatives and subject matter experts to develop a new Australian Standard 25kV AC Rail Traction Electrification Systems. This new product seeks to support harmonisation of 25kV AC design, construction, and operation. Your contribution to the development of this new product will help drive greater productivity and safety outcomes for the Australian and New Zealand Rail Industry. The addition of this new product to the RISSB catalogue will create a new Standard for 25 kV AC Rail Traction Electrification Systems, covering traction power systems, earthing and bonding, and overhead wiring systems.
