RISSB Network: Human Factors Managers Group

Chaired by Gareth Hughes from Transport for NSW, the Human Factors Managers Group (HFMG) discussed the importance of the wider rail reform program at its March 2025 meeting.

The Group also discussed the opportunity for industry to learn more about going beyond theory at the upcoming ‘Human Factors in Action Workshop’ on 12 May 2025, organised as a pre-conference workshop of the RISSB Rail Safety Conference Sydney.

The Workshop will feature sessions on level crossing risk, climbability assessment tool, integration of human factors into use of LiDAR technology and an open session on updates to AS 7470 Human Factors Integration and Technical Requirements for Rail Engineering Projects.

“We don’t live in a perfect world. While theory is great, as practitioners we need to be able to implement practical solutions. This workshop is an excellent opportunity for learning and sharing about the challenges we face,” said Gareth Hughes, Chair HFMG.
