AS 7451 Train Integrity Update

The AS 7451 Development Group met for the first time last week to discuss the existing AS 7503.6 Train identification and integrity Part 6 – Whole of train.  This Standard will be split away from the AS 7503 series into its own Standard. As part of that work, the newly created AS 7451 will not only include updated train integrity requirements and recommendations, but explore areas such as ECP trainline data, end-of-train monitors (and their function in proving train integrity) and improved sections on multiple unit vehicles. The group will meet again early in 2023.

Recruitment And Training Of Network Control Officers Code Of Practice Update

This week the Development Group met in Brisbane to discuss the feedback received during the public consultation period. Following lengthy discussions a number of improvements were made to the Code, with the final draft to be reviewed over the coming weeks. The Development Group then were hosted by Lisa Mills-Cardoso and Steve Wessling at the Queensland Rail Network Control Officer training facility in Bowen Hills.

This provided a fantastic opportunity for members of the Development Group to see firsthand how QR effectively combines classroom and simulator training to drive excellent training outcomes. RISSB would like to thank Lisa and Steve for making this happen!

South Africa Announced As Next Host IRSC Country

Every year, the International Railway Safety Council (IRSC) offers an in-depth exchange of experiences and conferences on new developments, lessons, and best practices to improve railway safety around the world. Following this year’s conference in Seville, South Africa was revealed as the  host country for the next IRSC which will be hosted by the South African Rail Safety Regulator early October 2023 in Cape Town.
