AS 7651 Axle Counters The AS 7651 Axle Counters Development Group met face-to-face for the first time this week in Melbourne. A fantastic turnout resulted in considerable discussions regarding this new Standard, including functional requirements of axle counters and the considerations around resetting them.
The current draft will be updated over the coming weeks for the development group to consider and comment on, with the aim to reconvene in April
AS 7473 Complex system integration in railwaysThe final meting for AS 7473 Complex systems integration in Railways will be held on 28th February in Sydney. This meeting is to review the feedback received as a result of public consultation.
WSP are kindly hosting the meeting, and all DG members are encouraged to attend or dial in, so that the Standard can be taken to its final draft.
Sharing Investigations 3 FullThere has been fantastic interest in the Sharing Investigations Forum #3 to be held at JHG in Sydney on Monday 30 March 2020.
These forums provide an opportunity for industry to share learnings from a wide array of incidents. A further Sharing Investigations Forum (#4) is planned for 2020, at this stage in Perth in late September. Consideration is being given to further forums, based on industry interest and demand
RISSB's Rail Safety Conference 2020
31 March - 1 April 2020
Fundamentals of Risk Management Course
28 May 2020
Every week we'll be introducing our new Horizons 2 participants to you. This week say hello to Amanda Liu, Joseph Plunkett and Tin Dang.
My name is Amanda Liu, I’m the Reliability Engineering Superintendent for Port and Rail at Fortescue Metals Group in W.A. My role is to manage the Reliability Engineering team for Port and Rail. My main responsibility is to provide engineering solutions to optimise efficiency and safety at Fortescue Rail and Port. I was involved in increasing the axel load to 42Tal project which is the heaviest axel load in the world for
heavy haul railways. I joined the Horizons program 2 to develop my understanding of Rail Safe and Technology in the Rail industry. I am also keen to learn and share from other group of young engineers in the industry and eventually bring some valuable back to Fortescue. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and cooking.
Hello, I’m Joseph Plunkett I work in Downer Rail's Signalling engineering team. Although relatively new to Signalling (2 yrs) I spent 5 years in rolling stock engineering design/commissioning and testing.
My role requires a strong technical understanding to create functional safe designs that meet the client’s needs. I’ve been in rail for 7 years and I became interested in rail as I had a trainset when I was a kid. Using the Horizon’s program I would like to develop my understanding of other the disciplines in the industry. In my spare time I like to row and spend time with friends and family.
My name is Tin Dang, an electrical engineer at Department of Transport (DoT) Victoria. I’m a part of modelling team in Network Planning division. My role involves in traction power and Reliability (RAM) modellings. Those modelling activities help us to identify weak points on our light-rail and heavy-rail networks as well as provide information for future developments. As a young engineer, I joined the Horizons program to gain more knowledge and experiences as well as to meet likeminded people from Rail Industry. Outside my work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and playing pick-up basketball in the weekends.
Horizons 2.0 Sydney Forum - Star Studded PresentersThe program for the Horizons 2.0 forum in Sydney on 2 and 3 April is nearly finalised and wow, what an array of presenters! Organisations involved at this stage include Sydney Trains/TfNSW, Arup, JHG, Aurecon, Downer, Consultarc, Shoal Engineering, Palazzi Rail, Laing O’Rourke, 4Tel, the National Transport Commissions and Pacific National.
RISSB is very grateful to industry and government for being such strong supporters of the Horizons Program. Your input and support makes Horizons the success it is.
