National Rules - The Next Steps

For many years RISSB has managed the Australian Network Rules and Procedures (ANRP). In 2018, RISSB changed tack and initiated the ‘National Rules’ project, which – in February 2020 – delivered the new (high-level) ‘National Rules Framework’ (https://www.rissb.com.au/products-main/national-operations/) based on the industry agreed 7 Fundamental Operating Principles.

The next step is to identify a number of rules that the industry would like to nationally harmonise at detailed levels, and to that end, senior people from the Australian rail Industry’s largest companies have been invited to a teleconference on the morning of 2 April 2020.

The aim of this meeting is to seek commitment to the project, the proposed approach and governance.

New Product Update

The following products were submitted to and approved by RISSB’s Board on 24 March 2020: 

• Network Operations and Performance Guideline
• Rail Cyber Security for Rolling Stock and Train Control Systems Code of Practice
• Requirements for Procurement of Rolling Stock Guideline
• AS1085.22 Specification for Alternative Sleepers
• AS7704 Train Control Systems Change Management

These publications will be uploaded to RISSB's website in the coming weeks.

AS 7658 Level Crossings

The Development Group has worked through all the comments provided during the public consultation phase and is now working on a revised draft.

This revision is progressing well and should be available for public comment in the near future.

AS 7663 Railway Signal Cables

The Development Group attended a remote meeting today and worked through the latest draft Standard. It is anticipated that this publication will be ready for public consultation next month.

AS 7460 Remotely Piloted Aviation Systems (Drones)

The first full draft of this future-focused Standard will be discussed with the Development Group tomorrow.
