Click here Edition 61, May 2020 INSIDE THIS EDITION NEWSRISSB Training Delivery Update Since the implementation of government restrictions and social distancing, RISSB has opted to conduct face-to-face training only in those situations where the requirements of both the Commonwealth and the host state can be met. We are pleased to announce that we are able to meet those requirements in Western Australia and hope to be delivering a course later this month. RISSB continues to develop its avenues for training delivery and we are currently developing short courses for online learning to be made available in the near future. Information about these courses will be made available nearer to the date of release. AS 7724 Unauthorized movement protection - Operational requirements Closes Rail Recommendation RISSB has recently completed work on AS 7724 Unauthorized movement protection - Operational requirements, and is currently moving it through to publication. In doing so, we have confirmed with the ATSB that it satisfies a long standing recommendation regarding “specifications for catchpoints and similar devices”. While this recommendation was not levied upon RISSB, we are very pleased to report ATSB’s acknowledgment “that Australian Standard AS 7724:2020 has addressed and closed rail recommendation RR20060018 as documented in ATSB Report
2005001.” RISSB Webinar #5 Hits a New Attendance Record This week we hit a record with a whopping 200 plus attendees turning up to listen to international guest speaker, Allan Spence (Network Rail, UK) hrouh the investigation into a serious collision between on track plant exposing tolerance of unsafe behaviour, planning errors, assumptions and design flaws.. the 'Watch' button. AS 7659 Point locking and point detection The Development Group has met online several times over the past few weeks to progress this important Standard. Operation and maintenance of this facet of track is the focus of the next few meetings. AS 7664 Signal cable routes, pits and foundations This Development Group has been working hard on reviewing this Standard over the past month. The current fully revised draft is being considered, with the aim to have it available for public consultation by the end of the month. AS 7663 Railway Signal Cables AS 7663 Railway Signal Cables is now available for an 8-week public consultation.
