Message from the CEO

RISSB is happy to welcome two new team members to the team - Anthony McDermott and Jennifer Willcock.

Our new Standards Development Manager (Infrastructure), Anthony, has more than 20 years’ wide-ranging experience in both the public and private sectors of the rail industry and in a variety of engineering fields including main roads projects, suburban rail, light rail, and heavy haul rail.

Jennifer is RISSB’s new Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager, and has more than 14 years’ experience in cross-industry communication and public relations positions in the corporate, public, and SME sectors. Her broad remit at RISSB includes managing external communications, ensuring RISSB’s engagement with all Stakeholders is timely, relevant and informative as well as supporting our members.  

Both Jennifer and Anthony work out of the Brisbane office, so expect to see them at AusRAIL.

ARE YOU CYBER READY? 

What would you do in the event of a cyber-attack? Do you have systems or critical infrastructure that may be vulnerable?

In May of this year, the German rail system was thrown into complete chaos when Deutsche Bahn became victims of a cyber-attack. Using malicious software, the attack resulted in ransomware messages appearing on screens at train stations demanding money. Less than 12 months ago a similar attack occurred on San Francisco’s Municipal Railway with the system unable to take passenger’s money. If this happened to you, what would you do?

In all of these instances no one was injured and the only material loss was a few days’ revenue, but all the above cases do highlight the very real threat that cyber security poses.

The Australian rail industry is getting proactive about implementing initiatives to combat cyber security and to safeguard the industry from this potential threat with RISSB’s inaugural Rail Cyber Security Conference.

It promises to be an exciting few days, with several expert guest speakers who will address what cyber threats are confronting the industry, as well as discuss strategies that can be put in place to help your business combat cyber-attacks.

AUSTRALIAN RAIL RISK MODEL (ARRM) LAUNCH
